A local to the South West region of Western Australia, I graduated as a Social Worker in 2007 and am registered with the Australian Association of Social Workers. With over 15 years experience throughout the South West and Warren Blackwood regions, I have always had a strong focus on supporting youth at risk encountering challenges with mental health, educational settings, developmental concerns, offending behaviours, self exploration, sexual health and healthy relationship development.
With a strong passion for nature and connection, outside of work I am a competitive horse rider recognising how commitment, focus and determination can truly achieve greater possibilities even when struggles are faced.
Who could pass a cheeky face, a wide smile and an infectious giggle? My son was diagnosed as nureodivergent with Autism and ADHD in 2019 with many people around me asking how am I coping with such a life changing condition? For many people they may be devastated which is perfectly normal, but for me it was a relief. I always knew there was something about him which made him stand out from his peers, however this has not marginalised him but opened doors far wider than I could have ever imagined.
The world really is his oyster and it is my honour to help my son channel his strengths, interests and focus to help empower him to be whatever he choses to be (as long as there are laughs to be had of course).
The journey walking alongside a loved one who experiences a disability or mental health concern can be lonely, confusing and confronting. I have sat on the other side of the assessments, read the reports and walked away in tears with the sadness that comes with the realisations of the struggles our loved ones face every moment of their day.
But I also feel my heart burst with pride watching the successes which can be made that lead to huge leaps forward when ready, focusing on the wins, the steps to achieve outcomes no matter how small or large they may be and the honour we hold to be a part of this journey.
Assessments often have a strong focus on an individuals deficits, however we must never forget their strengths, their commitment, their resilience and their drive to see the best not only in themselves but also others. It is this sentiment which drives my involvement in wanting to support others in this journey.
